Canada Safeway helping the kids!
Submitted by Myrna Stark, McMan
There
are many children across Canada that would love
to have a home! In Alberta alone, there are over
5,000 children in care. In care means living in
either a foster home, or another situation other
than with their own biological family. Some of these
children are available for adoption today. Across
Canada, we have tens of thousands of children in
care. The number varies from province to province
as well as from region to region. Currently there
are over 100 children in care within our own Southeast
Alberta region with approximately 15 of these available
for adoption right now.
As it is so important
to educate the public as to the need for more homes,
Canada Safeway has for the second
year in a row agreed to place a foster / adoptive
parent recruitment ad on the side of their milk
cartons sometime later this year. This ad campaign
will run across Canada in hopes of educating the
public as to the need for more homes and hopefully
to recruit more families not only in our region
but across the entire country.
The ad will display
a toll-free 1-800 number and website that can be
accessed from anywhere in Canada. The caller will
be appropriately prompted in either French or English,
and can be directed to a foster care or adoption
service within their province and forwarded on to
their specific region.
We are very pleased
to receive the cooperation of all of the provinces
on this project. We are very grateful to Canada
Safeway as well for providing this service
to us at no charge.
If you know of anyone
in another province or region that has mentioned
their interest in fostering or adopting, have them
call the toll free number to get connected in their
own area.
If you see this ad on
a milk carton - please call in and let us know.
